Tuition and living costs

Public university tuition
Open-enrolment (self-funded) international students, ministry fee table 2025-2026, annual cost in USD. Universities: bachelor's 1,000 (science & technology) / 800 (social & human sciences); master's 2,000 / 1,500; PhD 3,000 / 2,500; engineering degree 2,500; medical sciences 3,000 (pre-clinical and clinical cycles), residency 4,500. Selected national higher schools and faculties/institutes listed individually at 3,000 or 3,500 per year (e.g. ENSIA, National Polytechnic School Algiers, Faculty of Hydrocarbons and Chemistry Boumerdes at 3,500). The portal page is headed 'Tuition Fees for the 2026-2027 Academic Year' but links the PDF titled 2025-2026; confirm the 2026-27 table on the portal. Tuition is paid to the host university by bank transfer after the visa is obtained (or immediately for visa-exempt/visa-holding students) and the receipt is uploaded in step 2 of the application. A press report (Algerie360, 15 Apr 2026) quotes 'from 800' for social sciences and 4,000-5,000 for medicine/engineering, which differs from the PDF; the PDF is used here.Source

Monthly living cost
No official monthly living-cost figure was found. Published official components: university residence 15 USD per month; university catering listed as '1.20 DZD' per meal (as printed on the fee PDF; the unit looks like a typo and was not verified); transport at the same rate as Algerian students; urban rent for a 3-room apartment (about 65 m2) 112-450 USD per month depending on the city (reference only). The 2026 press article cites about 180 USD per year for accommodation, which is inconsistent with 15 USD/month and is not used.Source

What to watch for in Costs

  • Calculate tuition, living costs and insurance/visa costs separately.
  • Verify fees on the university's own page; programmes can differ greatly.
  • Add a margin each year for currency and exchange-rate risk.
  • Research scholarship and discount options before applying.
