Study in United Kingdom: costs, visa, scholarships and universities

Costs, visa process, work rights, scholarships and university options for studying in United Kingdom.

Overview

The United Kingdom offers international students taught degrees at a wide range of publicly funded universities. Undergraduate bachelor's degrees in England, Wales and Northern Ireland mostly run for three years, while Scotland's honours degrees (for example at Edinburgh) typically run for four. Most taught master's degrees are one year full-time. Applications for full-time undergraduate study go through UCAS; postgraduate taught applications are usually made directly to each university, with course-specific dates.,International (Overseas fee status) tuition is set by each university and is far above the Home rate, which for 2027/28 is capped at GBP 10,050 in England. On the 2027 entry pages checked for this dataset, undergraduate Overseas fees ranged from GBP 29,260 (Warwick, lowest band) to GBP 70,554 (Cambridge, medicine and veterinary group), with most non-medical courses between roughly GBP 29,000 and GBP 66,600. Taught master's fees on the pages checked ranged from GBP 37,900 to GBP 54,000 a year. Students must also budget for living costs; the universities that publish estimates give roughly GBP 1,330 to GBP 2,175 per month depending on city and lifestyle.,Most international students need a Student visa. The application fee on GOV.UK is GBP 558, the Immigration Health Surcharge for students is GBP 776 per year of permission, and applicants must hold maintenance funds of GBP 1,529 per month (London) or GBP 1,171 per month (outside London) for up to nine months, plus first-year tuition, for 28 consecutive days. Degree-level students may work up to 20 hours a week in term time and full-time in vacations under the Immigration Rules. Graduates can apply for the Graduate route: 2 years if applying on or before 31 December 2026, 18 months from 1 January 2027, and 3 years for doctoral graduates.,Funding for international students is competitive. Chevening (fully funded one-year master's) had its 2027/28 round close in October 2026; Gates Cambridge, the Clarendon Fund and university schemes such as Imperial Inspires, Manchester Global Futures and Bristol Think Big offer partial or full awards. This dataset reports only what official pages stated; fields that could not be verified are left null with a reason.
