One-off items

  • Language test and application fees
  • Document translation, notary and apostille
  • Visa/residence permit and biometrics fees
  • Deposit and first-term enrolment fees
  • Flights and initial set-up

Monthly/annual items

  • Tuition or semester contribution
  • Accommodation and utilities
  • Food, transport, phone
  • Health insurance
  • Course materials

Calculation

Total budget = one-off items + (monthly living cost × number of months) + annual tuition × number of years. Add a margin for exchange-rate risk and price increases for each year.

Proof of funds

Many countries require you to show a certain monthly amount for the visa (blocked account, bank statement, scholarship letter, etc.). Amounts and accepted methods differ by country; verify the current value on the official page.
