The Republic of Cyprus has three public universities (University of Cyprus, Cyprus University of Technology, Open University of Cyprus) and several private ones recognised by the Department of Higher Education, including Frederick, European University Cyprus, University of Nicosia, Neapolis Pafos and UCLan Cyprus.
Non-EU students pay tuition. The Department of Higher Education states EUR 6,834 per year for first-cycle non-EU students and EUR 5,125-10,250 per year for second cycle at public universities (2020/21 figures). Private universities set their own fees, for example EUR 9,240 per year for many EUC bachelors and EUR 9,000 for Frederick master's programmes.
Non-EU students need an entry permit from the Civil Registry and Migration Department, supported by an acceptance letter, criminal record certificate, medical certificates, a bank letter and a EUR 3,000 advance payment, and must apply for a residence permit within 10 days of arrival. A Council of Ministers decision of 19 July 2023 sets minimum English levels for third-country students.
The Department of Higher Education notes that universities in the area not under the control of the Republic are not recognised by the Republic of Cyprus; this dataset covers Republic of Cyprus institutions only.
