Three basic routes
- Direct application: you apply on the provider's portal yourself (for example many government scholarship programmes).
- Application by nomination: the relevant ministry or institution in your country selects and sends candidates; individual applications may not be possible.
- Via the university: you are assessed for a scholarship together with your admission application, automatically or with a separate form.
What to look at
- The application route and the official application page
- Age, grade, nationality and level criteria
- The application window (including the year)
- What the scholarship covers (tuition, monthly stipend, housing, insurance)
- Commitments (for example an obligation to return home after graduation)
A warning
Official scholarship applications are usually free. Be careful with intermediaries that charge for an application and always verify the official page. No consultancy can guarantee you will win a scholarship.
