# **A 12-month timeline for applying to universities abroad**

When should you start and what should happen when? A practical month-by-month plan.

## 12–10 months before: research

- Research countries and programmes
- List language requirements and accepted tests
- Identify scholarship programmes and their application routes

## 9–7 months before: preparation

- Prepare for and register for the language test
- Start transcripts, diplomas and, where needed, apostille/translation
- Talk to your referees

## 6–4 months before: applications

- Tailor your motivation letter and CV for each programme
- Submit applications through the official portals
- Complete scholarship applications (some government scholarships close earlier)

## 3–1 months before: offer and visa

- Receive the offer and complete enrolment/deposit
- Visa or residence-permit appointment
- Proof of funds and insurance
- Accommodation application

## Arrival

- Travel and first-week registrations (address, university)
- Bank account and health-insurance registration
