# **France: Visa**

Student visa and residence permit steps, timing and proof of funds for France.

## **Visa and residence permit**

Non-EU students need an offer of a place, evidence of French level adequate for the course, sufficient funds (EUR 615/month) and a long-stay student visa (VLS-TS) to be validated online within 3 months of arrival.

<dt>**Visa processing time**</dt>
<dd>Prefecture decides renewals within 60 days; silence means approval. Visa consular processing time not retrieved.<a href="https://france-visas.gouv.fr/en/etudiant">Source </a></dd>

<dt>**Proof of funds**</dt>
<dd>At least EUR 877.5 per month (service-public.gouv.fr). This replaces the earlier EUR 615 figure from the EU portal; verify with the consulate.<a href="https://france-visas.gouv.fr/en/etudiant">Source </a></dd>

<dt>**Health insurance**</dt>

### Application steps

1. Obtain admission
2. Apply via Campus France/Etudes en France if applicable, then visa application
3. Arrive and validate VLS-TS online within 3 months
4. Two months before expiry apply at prefecture for renewal/residence permit
